OK. I don't know about you, but when I eat a pie, I only eat the pie. I don't eat the plate.
Well, I guess not everybody thinks the way I do... we had a dog today that actually ate a pie AND the glass plate containing it. He had a lot of glass in his stomach, which is very, very dangerous, because it could puncture the wall and travel anywhere, or perforate more of the organs, or anything. So, they had to do emergency surgery today. I didn't get to see anything, but after a 3-hour surgery that exhausted the two doctors and the nurse, most of the glass was out of the dog's stomach, they said. As far as I know, the dog is stable, so let's hope for the best!
New
Our new nurse's aide seemed to be doing much better today. The nurse's aide before me didn't complain about him, and said they got a lot done, and she was right! The hospital was in good shape when I arrived, so I quickly (as always) started on the rest. Well, sometimes quickly isn't good-ly, because I ran out of jobs, quickly. I was wandering around the hospital, looking for work, which isn't rare-- but I felt that I had to help our new guy find something to do. It's harder to look for jobs when it's only your second day. I got him started, and I think it'll work out all right. I just wish we were busier, which is selfish to think, because that means either more pets are sick and injured or people have to pay more money for vaccinations or check-ups. But, I love the excitement!
Labs
I entered some labs (laboratory, not Labrador retriever) today and yesterday. It was slow, and it's a good chance to sit down! We don't have any sitting jobs.
The Force
There was a neuter/declaw cat still there today from yesterday, recovering and waiting to be picked up. Poor guy, he was afraid, maybe knew he was missing a few things, and wanting to be home. So, of course, he didn't eat. We tried to give him all sorts of "nummy" foods... dry, canned, varieties/flavors of canned, even beef baby food. He didn't want anything, so we had to force-feed him. For this, we sucked the baby food into a syringe with a plastic hollow tip (it made a nice sucking "chhhwhooop" noise) and squirted it into his mouth. He was afraid, so he didn't enjoy it as much, but he didn't spit it out. He was hungry. Then, about an hour later, his owners came to pick him up! I just responded with a growly, "are you SERIOUS." because the owners forgot to mention that they were coming to pick up their cat, and we knew he had to eat soon, but he would have just as soon eaten at home, I'm sure! This was rather unnecessary discomfort. Oh well, he'll heal and be happy very soon.
(P.S.: My arms are still sore from yesterday: see last post)
